Who's your favorite character, and why?
For me, it's definitely Kevin Levin. I like that he went to the good guy side after being a bad guy and that he hasn't fully reformed. I actually love that he still steals sometimes. And that he drag races.

While Kevin is near the top of my list of favorites, I have to go with Big Chill. The abilities, and how his wings form a cloak, just make him awesome.

Oh, Kevin is one of my favourites, but I voted for Ben. Why? Because he's too cute! I'm sorry, I'm childish, but it's true. He's like, comic relief. I love Kevin because of the complexity of his character, Gwen because she is the most mature, but Ben takes the cake because he's just too darned hilarious. (I'll admit that I probably would have voted for either Gwen or Kevin if poor Ben had at least one vote. I mean, seriously, the show is named after the guy! He has to have at least ONE vote... )

Oh, Ben's turned out adorably. I couldn't stomach the first Ben 10 because he was such a brat (it was a realistic charicature of a ten year old boy, but he was just too selfish most of the time). But now that he's a teenager, I adore him. ^_^ He's just so huggable, and considerate. And I love his smoothie addiction.

Yeah, I agree. Ben really matured (well, sort of. I mean, he's not a brat anymore! )

He matured realistically. Drinks way too many smoothies, and sometimes his jokes aren't that great ("We're just teaching her to mind her mana"? Seriously?), but those moments were he does slip back into immaturity are what gives him the air of a real person. (plus I LOVED the "no juice for you!" line....my dad used to make me watch Seinfeld every night)

I liked the "We don't need no stinkin' badges" line. Although, I might be showing my age by getting that joke lol.
He is a well-rounded character and one of the reasons I went back to watch the original series is so that I could get some background information. It's interesting to see how he was able to grow as a person over the course of five years.

Ben's just turned out to be pretty great. And I've been doing the same, but I keep wincing when I watch it...and then I imagine Ben sitting next to me, shaking his head going "Man, I was a brat..."
I'd love to see the character's reactions to their younger selves. Gwen wasn't terribly pleasant when she was younger either, and Kevin.....oh, boy, Kevin....he's one that I feel they really need to have him talk about his younger self, and all the things he did. Yeah, his past comes back up from time to time (like in the episode where 7-7's after the princess...Ben=x+10, I think was the name, I dunno), but I want to see his true reaction to "You did all of this. How do you feel about it now?". Maybe bring up one of his worst offenses in front of Gwen.

You're stirring up the plotbunnies again... I might just have to write a scene like that when I get back to my fic.
I think out of all of them, though, Kevin has grown the most as a person. Ben is more of a well-rounded individual.

oooh...I'm looking forward to it if whether or not you put that scene in, but plus a bonus point if you *do*.
Well, Kevin's had to...like I said, I love that he still steals and he can be a bit of a jerk.
We haven't talked about Gwen much...I love the redhead. She's a pretty cool character in my book, but she didn't have as much that changed from one series to the next....she could be pretty mean to Ben in the first series, but she's still the smart one.
As for the aliens: Maybe it's just because Save the Last Dance was the second episode I saw, but the minute I saw Big Chill, I thought it was supposed to be female (even before the whole 'laying eggs' part was revealed). Big Chill sounds kind of sarcastic, and almost evil...and I like BC for that. I think Echo Echo's adorable, but I can't stand his voice...I'm not good with slow talkers. I want to hug Goop. ...It wouldn't work well, and would be messy, but...he's Goop. Just the way he talks makes him adorable (I squealed when he said "no hitting"...he sounded like Stitch)

I hinted at some of it already, between the confrontations with Lothan and Talbot, but Gwen wasn't around for those two incidents. I think I need to write a good old "all hell breaks loose" scene where stuff gets brought back up in front of her.
As for Gwen, she is a great character herself too. She matured a lot since the original series and she seems to care more about Ben's well-being than she would admit to in the original.
As for the aliens, my daughter loves Swampfire.

that sounds like a cool idea.
Gwen really is a great character....I do get annoyed with her in fanfics...too many people want to put her in the damsel in distress role. I've had her kidnapped in one of my stories, too (Changing Times), but I tried to fit it in with her character, not having her sitting around going "oh no, who will rescue me?"
Swampfire's pretty cool. And it's so great that you and your daughter watch the show together. ^_^

Gwen is great. She's the kind of character that you want your kid to look up to, strong willed and independent.
Saturday morning is cartoon time for me and Rhiannon. I usually catch Friday's episode when they air it on Saturday because it conflicts with my Moonlight recording and the Mr.'s wrestling.

hey, one of the best parts of being a kid is Saturday morning cartoons. My parents got kind of frustrated with me after a while, though....didn't think it was normal for a 16 year old to still be watching so many cartoons. I finally got them to back off by asking if they rather I watched what my sisters do (lame tv dramas, realtiy programming, etc.). So, now at 19, they don't bother me about it anymore. Plus I've got a little boy on the way....hopefully Ben 10 will still be on when he's old enough to really start watching cartoons. If not, I'm seriously contemplating buying the DVDs and letting him watch it that way.

Don't feel bad. I'll be 28 next month and I still watch cartoons. I was thrilled when I was looking at my OnDemand and saw that they had a bunch of the old Thundercats episodes there. Rhiannon and I spent like two hours watching them.
