How do you keep yourself motivated when you get hit by writer's block?

How do you keep yourself motivated when you get hit by writer's block? I stay away from the story for a few days, and if too much time passes with no sudden inspiration, I force myself to go back and write it. Once I get the first 3 sentences out, the rest usually flows to me.

How do reviews affect you? Does a negative review hinder your confidence? How about the amount of reviews; does that affect your muse so-to-speak?

How do reviews affect you?
Honestly? It depends on the story. If it's romance, I only really pay attention to the longer reviews that say *what* they like about the story or the constructive criticism. The catch 22 with romance is that you're going to be guaranteed reviews by people that like your pairing. The downside is, a lot of those people would still give you a review if your story was garbage, so long as you don't change the pairing.
Does a negative review hinder your confidence? Depends on how it's phrased. I haven't gotten a terribly negative review for some time now, mainly it's "please lengthen your chapters" (which they're absolutely right on). I try to take into consideration what they didn't like.
How about the amount of reviews; does that affect your muse so-to-speak? Again, it's depends. For example, Lessons In Maturity has recieved a better ratio of reviews-per-chapter than my other stories, and has more people watching it for updates. Normally, that would make me psyched to continue to work on it, but strangely, it's having the opposite effect. I like getting reviews (I have a separate folder in my inbox for reviews so that I can keep them), admittedly, but I find I write faster and better when I write on a board like this, were the reviews are more intimate and I know the reader's not reviewing for the sake of the pairing, but because they actually enjoy my writing.
To be honest, I do have one rule, though - I have to at least *try* to think up a new chapter when the last chapter posted has 3 reviews or more. Unfortunately, sometimes that's harder than I expected.

Have you ever experienced a time where you thought up a 'eureka' moment that just has to go into the stories, or do most of your stories follow a specified plot? Which one is easier for you?

Have you ever experienced a time where you thought up a 'eureka' moment that just has to go into the stories, or do most of your stories follow a specified plot? Which one is easier for you? I'm a bad person about that...the general plot idea is always a 'eureka' moment, but often, some chapters are just building blocks to get to a scene that I thought up earlier and *had* to use. Since we're talking mainly about Mask, here, I'll say that that one was actually a much longer process. I listened to Phantom of the Opera over and over again, trying to decide what parts of the story would have to be tweaked (Can't picture Kevin being a great singer, but needed to get him on stage. Thus, Verdona being basically a 'witch', as he calls her in the story). The 'eureka' moment was listening to the song the first time, where I got the idea, and after that...well, it has gotten a bit harder to write (thus why the last chapter had so many jokes in it....), but I do intend to finish. I knew I wanted to get to that moment in Phantom where 'all hell breaks loose' - the chandelier crashing scene. There's so much emotion in that musical, and I wanted to try to portray as much of it in writing as I possibly could. I never can resist a challenge...even when I'm the one challenging myself.

Well this is more out of boredom than anything else but here we go..
General
1. When did you first take interest in writing?
I used to write on and off since around the time I was 11, but I really didn't pick up on it until about my 14th birthday, right as school ended. It really consumed a lot of my summer time.
2. What is your favorite genre to write (romance, angst, action, etc)?
I really enjoy writing a good action story, I may throw in a little poorly written romance from time to time, I usually just write out whatever is appealing to me at the time.
3. Do you have a particular atmosphere that helps you write (For example: music, silence, brightly lit, dark, etc)?
So dorky, but I record my voice while I type because I saw what i type with so much emotion sometimes and then I listen back to see how I wrote it in.
4. Do you use Original Characters (OC)? (if No, skip to #8)
Sure, but their traits maybe be slightly copyrighted haha
5. Do any of your OC resemble you?
Just one, who even shares the same name as me.
6.Can you relate any of your OC to one of the regular characters (appearance, attitude, etc)?
Eh not usually except for my character Sebastian. I based his clothing off of a coat used by The Ash'man in the Wheel of Time series
7. What is your favorite OC to write and why?
I would normally say mine, but after reviewing my quicky series on character origins, I quickly come to like Rasgon/Aaron the best, and not because he's based on my best friend either.
8. How many words does an average chapter consist of in your stories?
Well it really differs, In Origins each origin is about 9,500 words give or take, but in Omni-Files part one is like half the story and the other 3 parts are the remaining 50%.
9. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chapter stories?
Multi-Chapter, but more in the form of chronicles or parts, rather than chapters. I do this, because I feel kind of limited when you put in in "chapter form"
10. Do you write anything other than fan-fiction?
I do write some poetry and original works of my own. I've been published once in a local poem book called "Harvest." It was titled Rebellion is Blue, it was originally a piece for my lit class. Otherwise, my favorite original stories that are in progress are the Anti-Aircraft Ninja Hippos: The Meeting or Rickie Martyn: The Fire Breathing Pony (Yes I have a story titled that..)
And that was my great interview, from a very unskilled, but creative writer ha, so any questions?

Rickie Martyn the Firebreathing Pony? I must read this.
Yeah, I think we kind of forgot about this thread, but thank you for reviving it.
What got you interested in writing to begin with?

Yeah, I think we kind of forgot about this thread, but thank you for reviving it. What got you interested in writing to begin with? I really got hooked on writing, when I started to read a lot, and I was thinking how cool it would be to be an author and stuff. I re-sparked my passion for it last yr when I took a creative writing course and I forgot how much I loved writing.
Thanks for the question
