I'm in full agreement here.
The actors and crew spent a lot of time on this.
Also, Ryan Kelley is a great actor. I did get to see all of Prayers for Bobby and the SVU episode and he is a very versatile actor.

Final verdict:
It was...
Great.
If we're comparing to theatrical releases, there were some buggy moments (odd lines in the script, and Galadriel walking around with one hand on her hip far too often), and the CG was good but not amazing.
However, the actors were fantastic. There was no one cringeworthy this time, and while Gwen has moments were you may find her annoying, they don't seem out of character, either. Kevin is spot on, and so is Ben.
Also, I think it is terribly sweet of Kevin to have worked on a car for Ben for his birthday...even if he does claim he's going to take it back. Not a big fan of Elena. She was well acted, her fighting was pretty well choreographed, but...the character herself annoyed me.
I didn't like the whole Queen/Nanomech fight. I can't really see any other way for them to have defeated the hive, but ....eh. Not big on that scene. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.
.....what was with the hula girl on Kevin's dashboard...?

I really enjoyed it. It's on again tonight, so I'll be rewatching it.
Ryan Kelley did an outstanding job as Ben. He was very believable in the role. He definitely lived up to my expectations as far as his acting goes. The transitions between human and alien were done very well. I'll admit, you could tell where the CG began, but the rest of the scene made up for it.
Nathan was equally impressive as Kevin. He pulled off the snark perfectly. Even the facial expressions were spot on. And I'm pretty sure I caught him calling Ben "Benji" near the beginning. I'll try to catch it again when I watch it later. I think the hula dancer was a nice touch in his car. I can see him having something like that.
Galadriel was... okay. She wasn't bad, but she wasn't great either. The lines fit the character, but her delivery didn't.
I didn't mind Elena. She was a solid character, even if her mannerisms were irritating at times. She was played well and Alyssa did a good job with the fight choreography. I don't see her becomming a permanent member of the team (at least I hope not), but I wouldn't mind the occasional appearance. I almost wanted her to be on the antagonists side at the end just to add a little more drama, but I can understand why they wouldn't do that.
I agree with you on the fight scene. I think it would have been better if they had Gwen and Kevin a little more involved in the rest of the action.
Also, I called in to try to win the car, but I kept getting a busy signal. That would have been awesome.

Yeah, he definitely called Ben "Benji" at the beginning. I know for a fact people squealed over it.
Nathan and Ryan were definitely the MVPs for the cast. Galadriel was good, Alyssa was good (I'd say great at the fighting. She had those scenes down). ...I dunno, I didn't care too much for Grandpa Max. He just seemed too...mean. He wasn't really mean, but compared to how Max is...well, while he LOOKS more like Max then the guy from Race Against Time did, I still felt that the other Max played him better.
....I think I want Ben's car even more than Kevin's....

I thought so. The second viewing of it confirmed it.
I agree there. As for Grandpa Max, I really think they could have done better with him. I don't know if it was the writing or the acting, but it just wasn't believable. I think they also should have given him a little more screen time. He wasn't as involved as I would have liked him to be.

I think it was the writing. Max can be a bit uneasy about people, but refusing to even hear Elena's story and assuming she'd be bad because (he thought) her father was? Just so not like Max. And for that matter, why'd they call him "Max" rather than "grandpa" almost every time they referred to him in the movie?

I didn't get that either. They've never called him "Max" in the show unless it was preceded by"Grandpa". I think I'll blame that on the writers too.

Well, Gwen says "You miss Max" rather than "you miss grandpa" in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" but that's the only episode I can think of, and considering she wasn't talking to him at the time...yeah.
