Kevin (PG-13 discussion)

I just wanted to see what you guys think of the most common theories with Kevin, based on what I've seen in fanfiction:

1) That he doesn't use his old powers because of his fear of turning back into a monster.

2) Will likely regress into illegal trades, if he isn't currently doing it.

3) The only reason he doesn't ask Gwen out is the fear he isn't good enough for her.

4) Likely drinks, possibly smokes

5) Will be Gwen's first sexual experience, but she won't be his first.


I was reading some higher rated fanfics and was just wondering why the same theories keep popping up over and over again, and I wanted you guys' opinions on them. The only one I agree with is that he probably avoids using his old powers because he doesn't want to be a monster again.

Honestly, the 'I'm not good enough for Gwen, boo hoo' cliche annoys me. Kevin's very direct in flirting with her. He's made it obvious that he wants her, and when she offers to go to the auto show with him, he's more than happy with it (that's a date in my book). No, he doesn't seem to like or be comfortable talking about his past, but has he ever pushed Gwen away? ...Why am I ranting so much about this, anyways? It can make for some really good angsty fanfics, but having it pop up in general romance kind of annoys me.

And apparently because he was a criminal, some people feel they have to assign him other bad habits as well. Drinking? Why does that keep coming up? The one that annoys me far worse is that people think he's probably slept around a bit.

I just don't get it.

Honestly, if he has more experience than just the hug he and Gwen had, I don't think his pull towards her (that helped get him on the good team in the first place) would have been so strong.

Okay, so this has mainly been a rant, but I'd love to hear what you guys think of these (or if you have any theories about Kevin yourself).

Well this is a little on the old side but no one else has said anything on the subject, and I feel like going fanboy a bit.

I think Dwayne McDuffie has hinted around this subject a bunch. From what I gathered on his board I write with the idea in my head that even if their is no Omnitrix involved Kevin using his powers on energy is powerful but could have nasty side effects. If the watch is what he's draining it's dead or Frankenstein.

I take Kevin as a middle man. He knows people that need things and people that have things and for a percentage of the deal he will introduce one to the other. No illegal per-say but solidly in the gray category.

He's doing something to get that car fixed every time i gets trashed thats for sure. It's the only way we've seen him make money in the show so people just run with it.

I took Kevin in the beginning as someone they called when they needed his connections or a ride. He mentioned once " It's not like you ever call me to just play videogames. "

This has since changed I' sure. But back then I can see the nagging doubt in his head " These are the people that put me in the null void. Heck I almost burned this girl once no way she really likes me. "

Teenagers do both a lot of the time. Me I didn't do either till after but a lot of my friends did. He's 17 until Vendetta we had no idea he lived with anyone else I can see these things happening.

Now knowing he lives with his mom people that are trying to get their lives back on track tend to be more straight edge and not screw around as much.

If you write Kevin as a teenager with no guidance living on his own it would be out of character not to give him bad habits I think.

He's got that bad boy thing going on, and Gwen's an honor student. Stereotypes and a million bad 80's movies to draw on for inspiration I guess.


Me I could see some cute older bad girl using kevin easy. Humm >adds to ideas file. <
