Author's Note: Doing the same thing as fierysue - I don't know if I'll finish this in time (Lord knows when baby's going to choose to come into the world), so I'm posting here first, then will transplant if I finish. I chose the cliche of Kevin going back to the bad side, and there will be Gwevin, of course, but I have my own take on why he goes back to the 'dark side' (...ignore my nerdiness, please).
"Well, that's all of them," Ben said, pocketing the Null Void eggs.
"No, it's not."
Ben turned around to face his grandfather. Ten years had passed since Grandpa Max had been in the Null Void, and the years had not been kind to him. A metal arm and much less muscle tone were the first things to stick out. But, as much as Gwen and Ben both argued for him to do so, Max still refused to retire.
"That's all the aliens behind this particular thing," Ben argued, stretching his arms behind his back and feeling a joint pop. "The plot to take over the citadel."
"And who planned the attack?" Grandpa Max asked, impatiently. Ben paused.
"I ...I don't know."
Max shook his head. "You and Gwen still insist on defending him," the old man laughed gently, and for a moment, Ben actually felt annoyed with his grandfather. "I get that you want to protect him, that it wasn't his fault that this happened....but he's still doing things that are hurting people. You can't let him get away with it forever."
"There's no proof that Kevin planned this!" Ben insisted.
"No. You're right. No proof," Max agreed. "But the rumors all said he was the mastermind. Why would your inside guy tell you the truth about everything else? He said Kevin was the one who came up with the plan. Do you think he lied?"
"No," Ben admitted. "But Grandpa, you know --"
Max held up his metal hand, silencing his grandson. "Yes, Ben. I know. I can't make you go after him, and I'm not strong enough to do it on my own. I just hope you kids don't wait too long, and let him get away with too much."
"I'm twenty-five, Grandpa. I'm not a kid."
"No..no, I guess you're not." Max smiled. "C'mon. Let's get back to the house."

"You are one lucky son of a --"
"Luck's got nothing to do with it," Kevin interrupted Argit before the curse could escape him. "How far am I going to have to push them?"
"What, you want them to come after you?" Argit shook his head. "I knew you were crazy..."
"Trusting a rat like you, I'd have to be," Kevin responded with a snort. "And I don't want to be caught. I just want to fight. It's so boring that Tennyson doesn't come after me...I always make it obvious I'm behind these attacks. I even put out rumors of where I'm at. He never follows them."
"Is it him you want to follow them, or the girl?"
Kevin glared, and Argit seemed to shrink under the gaze. "Gwen's got nothing to do with it either. If either one of them would just fight me..."
"But they won't," Argit said, rubbing his hands together greedily, "Which means you can get away with some major stuff. There's a bunch of jewelry I've had my eye on...can trade it for a lot of cash..."
"Do what you want," Kevin said simply, turning and walking away. Argit shrugged and descended from the rooftop where he and Kevin were having their discussion.
"Man," Argit said to himself, "That guy's losing it...oh well. Helps me take more, and it means I don't have to share it..."
